Frequently asked questions

I believe true healing happens in a space where you feel genuinely heard, seen, and supported without judgment. Explore the answers below to learn more about starting therapy with Megan.

Will I be judged during our sessions?

Absolutely not. Therapy is a compassionate, strictly non-judgmental space. Whether you are experiencing scary intrusive thoughts postpartum, dealing with overwhelming anxiety, or struggling with daily life stressors, you will be met with genuine empathy, confidentiality, and understanding.

What happens during our first appointment?

During our initial session, we will take time to get acquainted at a comfortable pace. I will ask gentle questions to understand what you are currently struggling with, what your home life looks like, your overall mental and physical health history, childhood experiences, and current symptoms. You do not need to prepare anything formal—just come as you are.

What therapeutic modalities and approaches do you use?

I individualize care for every client. My approach integrates evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness and relaxation techniques, alongside talk therapy centered on life transitions, parenting, and relationships.

How often will we meet for therapy?

Most clients begin by meeting weekly or bi-weekly. We will collaborate to determine a session cadence that matches your unique therapeutic goals, schedule, and support needs as you progress.

Do you accept insurance or self-pay?

Yes, I accept select insurance plans as well as out-of-network and self-pay options. Please visit my rates and insurance page or reach out directly to verify your specific coverage details prior to your first session.

How do payments work?

If you are in network with Aetna, Cigna, Medical Mutual of Ohio, or an insurance plan covering OhioHealth employees, all payments and copays will be securely processed through Simple Practice, the electronic health record system Northwoods Clinic uses. If you are paying out of pocket,  self-pay session fees are securely processed electronically through Square. You can easily manage and complete payments using standard debit or credit cards.

What is your experience with perinatal and postpartum mental health?

I have specialized clinical training in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs). I work closely with individuals and parents through conception, pregnancy, loss, termination, postpartum adjustments, birth trauma, and the complexities of early parenthood.

What should I do if I feel nervous before reaching out?

Feeling nervous before your first therapy appointment is completely normal. Remember that you are in control of the pace of therapy, and you do not have to share everything all at once. Taking this first step is a meaningful act of care for yourself.
